The Bazadais (Baz-a-day) breed originates from Bazas, located to the south of Gironde, France.

Bazadais is an ancient working cattle breed, once widespread from the forests of Les Landes to the vineyards of Bordeaux and has a herd book dating back to 1895.

Bazadais cattle are highly adaptable to any terrain and will extract the best from any type of country. The stature of these animals and their outstanding reaction to less than ideal grasslands is impressive. The breed has also gained a strong reputation for acquiring good carcases without having to supplement typical grazing patterns.

Today, the Bazadais is highly acclaimed as a beef breed. Highlights of the breed include the sheer hardiness of the cattle, their resilience in difficult conditions and above all, ease of calving. The latter being of significant importance in building a herd.

Since introduction to Australia, the Bazadais have found their niche - a breed that will excel in all climatic conditions from the cold of Tasmania to the extreme heat of the Northern Territory.

Exceptional Yields:
Bazadais cattle being fine boned and heavily muscled produce exceptional yields as a pure or crossbred. Being smooth muscled, the fat lay down is even with marbling score 1 and 2.

Thus producing 60% plus yielding carcasses with 80% saleable meat in 25-30% less time.

The flavour, tenderness and fine grain of this meat makes it sought after by butchers and consumers.

Finish Off Grass or Grain:
Bazadais cross have averaged weight gains in excess of 1 to 1.3kg per day off grass and can easily double the weight gain on grain. Crossbred cattle have excelled in grass fed trials over the past 3 years.

Ease of Calving:
Having evolved through natural selection, the fertility rate and ease of calving is very high.

The birth weight of calves averages 38kg. Calves are very alert and mobile soon after birth and their muscle pattern develops after 3 to 4 weeks.

Calves are born a wheaten colour which gradually gives way to a light or dark charcoal just before weaning.

Females have good maternal instincts and milking ability. The Bazadais leaves its stamp on any breed they are crossed with passing on sound genetics and good traits.
